Wanna Be Where?

My church was full this morning. I was one among many. Just part of a large crowd that was gathered to worship in song, gifts, Word and prayer. Simple pews filled with everyday people.

A new worship song was introduced and led me to think of another song we often had sang together. 

'I just wanna be where you are' we sang in prayer and the lyrics had me pondering. It even stopped me for a moment.  I stopped singing and started praying. "Yes, Lord, I want to be where you are. I want to thank you, hug you, love you. I would kneel at your feet in humble adoration. I would hold your hand as you have reached to me and held mine so many times."  

I thought of all the things I would do to display my love, my devotion, my worship to Jesus. 

But my spirit wrestled for a moment and I heard in my heart, "Laurie, Do you wanna be where I am? Truly?"

Then images of all varieties flooded my mind. People of all situations and tough circumstances circled my thoughts. 

The homeless. He is Shelter.

The child hurt by an adult. God is Father of the fatherless.

The hungry, the thirsty. He is Bread of Life, and Living Water.

The addicted. He calls them out and Redeems.

The one that lost their job and have children looking to them. He has a plan.

The mourner, the widow, the brokenhearted. He is Comforter. 

'Laurie, Do you wanna be where I am? I am with these. Come, come be with Me and serve these. There you will find Me.' 

Honestly, my heart was broken for a moment. For two reasons: first, He has redeemed me. He has been  my Comfort, and my Peace. In thanks I was humbled in gratefulness. Second, I can serve others because He has given much to me.

Yes, more than anything I wanna be where He is. 

But, I wanna bring many with me. Join me please?

Because He is good. Because He came to give Life. Because He loves. Eternally.
